Experience
As a graduate engineer, Barrera was employed at Halff Associates, McAllen office from July 1996 to April 2005. While at Halff, Barrera was involved in a variety of projects that included land, site development, and transportation. In April 2005, Barrera started with the City of McAllen as the Transportation Engineer. During her tenure at McAllen, she also held positions of Director of Traffic Operations, Acting Deputy City Engineer, and City Engineer. As the City Engineer from 2007 through January 2022, Barrera was responsible for the overall administration of the Engineering Department and Traffic Operations Division.
Mission
She started with Hidalgo County Drainage District in January 2022 as an Assistant General Manager, where she assists with managing the 2018 Drainage Bond projects along with the Subdivision Drainage reviews.
